What does this mean for people who live and work in the region?

HSCCA brings specified strategic decisions and investment closer to the region. It coordinates work across Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, Portsmouth and Southampton in areas where functions have been devolved or otherwise conferred.

Will a Combined County Authority mean more regional investment?

HSCCA can coordinate devolved and other regional funding within the powers and budgets available to it and can work with partners to support further investment in regional priorities.

Will devolution add an additional layer of bureaucracy?

The purpose of devolution is to transfer specified strategic powers to the region. Constituent councils continue to perform local functions that have not transferred to HSCCA.

When will there be a Mayor?

The first directly elected Mayor is scheduled to take office following the May 2028 election. Until then, HSCCA operates through its Board arrangements.
